Yes, thank you for writing to me about Poland. First of all, Poland sucking ass is solely my opinion, and should not be construed as a factual statement. Secondly, I have never claimed that Poland is not/was not an important country both in past history, and in modern times. I furthermore agree, that parts of Poland are indeed beautiful. The country is very green and peaceful. My qualms with Poland include, but are not limited to, the following issues: 1) swastika signs which still remain to this day along various roadsides throughout the country on phone booths, bus stations, etc. 2) the egregious amount of prostitution, homelessness, graffiti, and trash which takes place/exists in Warsaw, and some of the other large cities such as Krakow. 3) the fact that large portions of the country are still bombed, or appear to be bombed out. i saw many areas which were littered with trash, debris, and other waste, which seem to have been there for many years, dating back to World War II. Also, I never claimed that Poland is a "poor" country. However, since you, yourself, do admit this fact, let me explain why. YOU GUYS WERE PUPPETS FOR THE USSR. Maybe that wasn't YOUR fault, but your leaderships... but communism doesn't work because people like to OWN stuff on their own. How can anyone attain any wealth when the government owns everything. I talked to NUMEROUS people about communism and its differences with the new democratic government which is in place today. They ALL agreed, that although life sometimes is difficult with democracy, because you have to actually work to survive instead of getting shit handed to you, they still much rather have a democratic government then go back to communism. So hopefully, one day, Poland will again be an important country to the rest of the world.

Before the WW1 there was no Poland as I had said in the previous message Russia and Germany had devided it. Poland didn't exist. Poles couldn't speak Polish or else they'd get punished. This was happening for almost a century!! But no Poles decided not to, they had been born in Russia or Germany, but their blood was Polish.

Anyway , When WW1 broke out, Poles decided to fight for Poland even though there was no Poland, and guess what Poland fought their land back, and once again there was Poland.

WW2. Germany and Russia once again turned on Poland. Killed all of Polands officers, teachers, scientists, etc. in Auschwitz. Then they used it for killing jews and mainly Poles. And once again there was no Poland.But let me remind you, Poland had fought for two months against Russia and Germany .Two strong nations, and the beautiful thing is we fought to our last drop of blood.

Once WW2 ended.Poland had it's land , thanks to the Russians because Russia too, had turned on the Germans. But Poland had communism till the 80's. I think that's when you were in Poland, because that's what it looked like then.

Poland has improved ALOT. Poland will join the EU in 2 years, meaning Poland will be like Germany in 2 years.So how about you go to Poland now. Oh and I beleive you mentioned this in your message

a) No, I have not been to Germany. b) I didn't say the prostitutes were polish, I merely stated that there were lots of them. If you don't like my opinion, you don't have to visit my site. e) Russia IS more important than Poland, for many reasons, a few I can think of off the top of my head are: because Russia is on the UN Security Council, is part of the G8, and has lots of nuclear weapons, so if people ignore Russia, that could be a problem. f) Things handed to them? If you are talking abut the pilgrims and getting free food from the Indians, then yes, Americans had things handed to them. Beyond that? America is a country which attracts immigrants from all over the world who seek better opportunities. Often, these immigrants come to this country with little or no money, and very few personal items, and through hard work and perseverance, achieve success. hi. my name is casey. i am from new york but live in
poland working as a musician. one thing you keep
skipping over when you write about poland is that the
women are really hot. they love american guys. they
hate to seem needy, but as long as a guy is not polish
they go for them everytime. anyway, thats a whole book
of information that i could get into later. the
country does indeed suck ass. i have lived there for 4
years in gdansk, the 3rd most touristed city. i have
been everywhere in poland and eastern and central
europe and poland doesnt even have nice countryside.
its like 99 miles of indian reservation and then 1
mile old ass city. which is nice, but doesnt exactly
compensate for the crap of living there. so anyway,
from a guy living there, i admit it does suck. so do
the girlies, but that is a good thing.

it is a backward country that is corrupt and has very few
redeeming features. most poles dont even defend the
fact that the country is good for nothing. the college
girls have adopted a feministic attitude because of
the movies they have seen from the states, and have
strong opinions about the republican party. the think
democratic is the only way to vote because it stands
for democracy, and consider the republican party a
leftist cult group rather than another option of said
democracy. i get tired of hearing the anti american
sentiment over there. they all have opinions about

Wow, months and months later, and the Poland thing STILL wont die away.... A new letter I received on 4/22/03

I was looking up history facts on Poland and got to your little rant and
rave fest you've been having with a bunch of stupid Pollacks. You're an
idiot. I may be a stupid Pollack, but you're an idiot. I've never heard
anyone make such stupid remarks over why a country sucks. I live in Los
Angeles too, have you visited south central lately, and seen all the burnt
out buildings and crack houses. Have you visited the nightlife on Hollywood
and Vine, lately; prostitutes anyone? You must live in some polished/rich
neighborhood, or maybe a cave, to make the kind of nonsense comments about
Poland and think those exact same problems do not apply in America. Look at
the crime statistics for Washington D.C. alone, the nation's wonderful
capital, who's mayor of a few years ago was caught, on video, buying and
smoking crack cocaine. What a wonderful place America is! You can be an
important government official, and still smoke crack. What more can I say
about this wonderful country called America? Should we talk about the
5-times-greater-than-any-other-country-per-capita-death-penalty-convictions?
What about education statistics for k-12? Corruption of police officials,
government officials? A justice system that rewards the wealthy and punishes
the poor? A country that turns and looks the other way when a fast buck can
be made? A country that only gets "morally" involved when money can be made?
And on, and on....

I know, I know... I know what you might say; "if you don't like America, get
the fuck out." But there's the hidden catch, by making that statement you
awknowledge that the above problems do exist and that America really does
suck just as bad as you say Poland does. You can't argue against facts can
you! So then, the big question is, what country today doesn't suck?

By stating that Poland sucks, you simply show to everyone in the world who
reads your site how truly ignorant and foolish, intellectually simplistic,
and an altogther complete joke you really are. And you're right, it is
America, there is Freedom of Speech, and you have the Freedom to be as
stupid as you wish to be in both your comments and opinions. As I stated
above, I found your site by chance, I will not be back, and I would
recommend any intelligent person who happens upon your site to ignore your
moronic comments and not get emotional about it. Little worms like you

In response to your letter, let me say the following few things. I never claimed that the PEOPLE of poland were stupid. In fact, I spoke to many of them during my trip, and at least a handful appeared to be quite intelligent. Also, I certainly do not make any claims that life in Los Angeles, or any part of America is utopia. Indeed you are correct to say that in any part of the world, countries face both similar and different problems. Also, yes, I do live in a "polished/rich" neighborhood, called Beverly Hills. What that has to do with anything though is beyond me. I FULLY support the use of the death penalty. I wish we would use it MUCH more liberally as a form of punishment for murder/rape crimes. That, of course, is solely my opinion, and I respect the opinions of others, such as yourself, who feel that it is not a good way of enforcing punishments; although I do disagree with that view. Our justice system rewards the wealthy and punishes the poor? I do not see any evidence backing that up. Of course there are decisions made in our courts on a daily basis with which people disagree with. Thats why we have a wonderful appeals system, to try and correct these errors. There is no justice system in the world which is perfect, but, a) at least we have one, unlike many other countries, in which taking you out to the back and executing is the justice system and b) we are continually updating/changing our system as we so deem necessary. Corruption of police and government officials? If you read your statistics, America has among the top 12 LEAST corrupted governments in the world, I do not know where Poland ranks, but I'll take a wild guess and assume they are not in the top 20. America is a country driven by money, that is why it has been so successful economically, and why it attracts thousands of immigrants each year, who seek better opportunity. If people wanted a less money driven society, go live in Sweden or something, where they take up to 80 or 90% of your yearly income for taxes.

I never said you claimed Polish People are stupid. I made specific comments
in regards to a stereotype, not that you personally promote said stereotype,
but as a comment on making snap judgments based on ignorance.

Because, living in a "polished/rich" neighborhood, you have, more than
likely, been spoiled by what you have. Your statements and attitude, in
fact, led me to this conclusion. Of course, I might have been wrong, but I'm
glad I made a good educated guess.

The death penalty is silly. It's like sweeping the dirt on the floor under
the carpet instead of actually cleaning up the room. You disagree with this
out of sheer ignorance of facts, specifically, that the death penalty does
not deter crime, so therefore it does not work. All it does is make fools
believe that something is actually getting accomplished so that they can
pretend to be morally superior to the 'animals' who commit these crimes.

Our justice system doesn't reward the wealthy? Let's see, a large
corporation illegally dumps chemical and biological waste where it can enter
the drinking water of a few small towns, making millions per year for this
dumping. They get caught, what is there punishment, a few hundred thousand
dollars. Therefore, is it worth committing the crime? A poor kid growing up
in south central is dealing drugs so he can eat and have some of the things
the commercials tell him he should have to be somebody. Gets caught, three
strikes and he's in for life. So, who's the greater danger to society; the
punk kid drug dealer or the large corporation? How about this: I prominent
political figure purchases a baseball team and blackmails the state which
hosts that team for a new ballpark. To this end the state illegally kicks
people off their land so that this ballpark can be built with taxpayer
money. Who did this? What was the punishment?

And finally, as a clear example: O.J. Simpson. If he wasn't rich and had to
depend on a state provided attorney, he'd more than likely be in jail.

Not corrupted? What do you call the political lobbying system? Oh wait,
that's legal, so it must not be a form of corruption, right? Yes, there are
more corrupt governments in the world. But don't think the american
government is so clean in this one, we just choose to ignore the blatant
corruption that occurs in our government because we're all too busy wishing
we could be driving that brand new sports car.

The american illusion is fading, and it's fading fast. But you want to know
what makes america truly successful; no, not it's quest for the almighty
dollar. What makes american truly successful is it's tolerance for racial,
social, political and religious differences. If you look at what Poland was
like over 200 years ago, you will see it was one of the most successful
countries in Europe. What was different back then, Poland's tolerance of
different cultures within it's borders.

The drive for money will collapse america faster than any hidden terrorist
network could ever hope to achieve. Time will tell.

d) and finally, i never claimed that america has no corruption. indeed the examples you gave are good ones. i merely stated that america has LESS corruption that many many other nations in the world. i dont have the study in front of me, but i recently read that america is ranked #8 in the world in terms of least amount of corruption. thats not to stay there is no corruption, its just to state that in relative to other countries, its not so bad here.

Living in Poland sometimes does suck but living in any country has its ups and downs. It`s true that politicians are corrupted but I think it`s a widespread phenomenon which one can`t avoid in democratic countries. True : our former authorities consisted mainly of "mentally retarded" people. True again : Poland is not the cleanest country in the world. Homelessness, prostitution : all true. But those are problems that any European country has to tackle. Haven`t you hurt of consequences of free market economy and capitalism? I`ve visited France lately and Paris doesn`t look any better than Warsaw at all. Of course they have some representative districts there but if you had dug deep into shady districts of Paris you would have noticed that it`s even worse than Warsaw. Swastika crosses? Have you ever seen Italian Serie A footbal (soccer) game? If you`d seen Lazio Roma stadium you would have known how enormous the phenomenon of racism is there. In fact I think you`re fascist. Firstly, I think democracy is a LOT better to alternative methods of government, such as dictatorships, communism, etc. Also, I never claimed that other countries dont have similar problems. I merely stated that in Poland, it was very evident, particularly swastika signs. I'm sure many other countries around the world have similar issues they must deal with. Finally, I don't ever recall insulting Polish PEOPLE. Not once. I just did not like my visit to the country of Poland, and thats it. I have no qualms with the people of the country whatsoever; they were in fact, quite pleasant.

Democracy is of course the best alternative. However, it is not perfect, like any other system. In my opinion you insulted Poland as a country and that means you insulted every person who has some patriotic feelings. You don`t have to love Poland, heck you can even hate it from the bottom of your heart, but keep the remarks for yourself. I and many other Poles felt insulted but I guess you don`t give a damn.

Hmm. Well, let me say this. I have received MANY letters from hundreds of people over the past few years. Some hate me, some love me. Anyhow, your letter today was actually one of the few good criticisms, with regards to the patriotic feelings comment. I had not, until now, considered what MY response would be to someone who insulted the United States as a country. Although I stand by my comments and my feelings towards the country overall, and will not remove them; I will actually consider modifying the content of my website in the near future to perhaps a less offending tone.
