Senor Sebas

Ok, Sebastian the Mexican immigrant asked for his very own section here on Elat Farming, so I feel obliged to give it to him. I hope he finds this acceptable.

Below, we have a picture of him using the telephone to either a) be calling his family back in Mexico, or b) be calling 900 numbers. Which do you feel is more likely he is doing?

Ok, Sebastian has informed me that his hero in life is a fellow by the name of Che Guevara. He asked me to do some research on the one time guerilla fighter, and pay homage by putting pictures and information about him on this page.

This picture above is the photograph which has become a legendary portrait.

Che Guevara (1928-67)

Real name ERNESTO GUEVARA (1928-67), Latin American guerrilla leader and revolutionary theorist, who became a hero to the New Left radicals of the 1960s.

Born into a middle-class family in Rosario, Argentina, Guevara received a medical degree from the University of Buenos Aires in 1953.

Convinced that revolution was the only remedy for Latin America's social inequities, in 1954 he went to Mexico, where he joined exiled Cuban revolutionaries under Fidel Castro.

In the late 1950s, he played an important role in Castro's guerrilla war against Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista, and when Castro came to power, he served as Cuba's minister of industry (1961-65). A strong opponent of U.S. influence in the Third World, he helped guide the Castro regime on its leftward and pro-Communist path.

The author of two books on guerrilla warfare, Guevara advocated peasant-based revolutionary movements in the developing countries. He disappeared from Cuba in 1965, reappearing the following year as an insurgent leader in Bolivia.

He was captured by the Bolivian army and shot near Vallegrande on Oct. 9, 1967.

Sebastian's other idol in life is Diego Maradona, so here is some info on one of the greatest soccer players ever. (Personally, I think Pele was the best)

Born on October 30, 1960 in the poor slums of Villa Fiorito in the outskirts of Buenos Aires, Diego grew up with soccer. He was nicknamed "El pibe de oro" (the golden boy): he started in Argentinos Juniors, then joined Boca Juniors and led the Argentina youth team to win the world cup in 1979. After the 1982 world cup in Spain, when he was already an idol, he joined Barcelona and played in Spain for two seasons. In 1984 he joined Napoli and won here two Italian Championships in 1986/87 and 1989/90, a Coppa Italia (1987), an UEFA cup (1989) and a Supercoppa Italiana (1990). In the mean time, he was the hero of Argentina's triumph in Mexico 1986 World Cup since he led the team to the final victory. Unfortunately, after failing a dope test in 1991 he was banned from the soccer fields. After the suspension, he went to Spain to play for Sevilla and then back to Argentina with Newell's Old Boys. Then, after a pair of coachings in Argentina, he came back to Boca Juniors.

In the World Cup of 1994 in the USA, Maradona was tested after the match against Nigeria and was found to have used "ephedrine", not permitted by FIFA. He was suspended from playing soccer for more than a year as punishment. Although Argentina came in with a strong team in the 1994 World Cup, everything went downhill and, without their captain, they were soon defeated.

After the suspension, he started playing again for Boca Juniors until 1997: on October 30, 1997, on his 37th birthday, he retired from football.

But I think Maradona should be judged for what he showed on the football fields in every part of the world, and not for his private life, and what he has shown is something really unique and unforgettable. Thank you, DIEGO.
