"The Josh"
He is a fellow I met back about 8 years ago now, on Brain Toys BBS. Originally went by the user name of "FLATLiNE," he was at first my enemy, but gradually we made peace, and he has now evolved into my mentor in many aspects of life, covering a wide array of subjects. Beginning with Major Mud, he taught me first how to play the game, then how to understand mud, and then guided me through the game while watching from the sidelines. He taught me much about social interaction, about leadership, about organization from within and mobilization throughout. Though throughout the years, I have mistakenly strayed several times from his guidance, he has always brought me back, and in doing so, taught me exponentially about the way the world runs round.
He left Brain Toys. I did not follow him out. I remained, a fruitless attempt to continue without him. I wandered aimlessly for perhaps 2 years. He guided me when possible, but it was not the same. We talked of reviving Mud, but realized it could not be so for him. His Mud time had come and gone. We dreamed about entering the world of Ultima Online. Another fantasy which could never be realized. His life had become too crowded to dedicate his valuable time and energy to a fictional world.
Now we remain as friends. I suppose you might say without a "home" to roam and rule, but no matter, we are past that stage. These days, I try to be the Jedi Master, and he, my apprentice, teaching him how to deal with women, though so far, to no success ;) Perhaps I need more training myself. I only hope that somehow, someday, I can repay him for all that he has done for me throughout the years.
