Dave Chappelle in Los Angeles!

Chappelle makes surprise guest appearance at the LA Improv on 06/01/05!

Well, I had the privilege to see the man back after his crack smoking binge in Africa. Dave was up on stage for about 15 minutes or so, mostly rambling on about his trip, the media attention he has been getting, etc... He said it was his first comedy appearance since getting back, and he did look a bit rusty. Everyone of course went nuts when they announced he was coming up on stage, and he got a good 3 or 4 minute standing ovation from the crowd. Once he started his bit, he looked a little lost at times, not sure what direction to go in. His eyes were hella glazed (smoking that weed I guess), and he looked a bit out of it, although that may be due to his flight into Los Angeles. But he certainly had his classic Dave moments as well, with the crowd busting up as he made light of his recent adventure to the homeland. He also briefly discussed his apparent falling out with Comedy Central. He didn't go into details, but basically mentioned that he fired someone from his show and the station didn't approve. He hasn't made a decision on whether there will be a Season 3 of Chappelle's Show or not at this point, but it didn't seem like he was too optimistic about it. He also mentioned life without the Chappelle Show, and someone from the audience asked him what he was going to do next, and he didn't really know. Someone suggested he do Half Baked 2, to which Dave's reply was that would only happen if he was dead broke and needed some cash. All in all, it was great to see him back and I hope all is well with him!
